The last few months have flown by and now we are heading into fall. Here are some highlights since our last blog post.
“Craigcrest Rubies Gold Charm” sold in the Taste of Ontario National Convention Sale to Wildina Holsteins. Thanks John. “Craigcrest Rubies Rosewood” got to stay in Wisconsin following Duckett’s Celebration Sale. Thanks Mike and Julie for your purchase. We’re excited about our purchase of two beautiful heifers at the Celebration Sale – Miss Blackys Bikini and Duckett-SA Hero Fina. Fina is a granddaughter of Frosty and is #25 on the list of Top PTAT Heifers in the US (under 24 months).
Mid-April we bid a fond family farewell to Yasuhiro Makihara who returned to his home in Japan following a year of working at our farm. Arigatou Yasuhiro!
Kathleen Baird, a recent Ridgetown Campus grad, joined our staff as herdsperson in April. She’s a fantastic addition to our farm team! We sure enjoyed hosting Ruben Schapmaan as an intern this summer. Thanks Ruben for all of your hard work and your enthusiasm for dairy farming.
Our weather this year was almost a complete opposite to last year. Cooler and wetter would be the key words. We had abundant hay crops but we ended up rolling and wrapping it all. Thanks to team efforts and the help of some local custom balers and wrappers we got ’er done and it made some really nice feed.
August 2013 marked our 10th Anniversary as E. & J. Craig Farms. We got to celebrate this milestone with two awesome events in the last week of the month. Craigcrest Rubies Gold Rejoice was Grand Champion at the Midwest Fall National Holstein Show, Minnesota State Fair. More show photos are available at www.dairyagendatoday.com
We had Champion Junior Herd at Dufferin-Wellington Holstein Show with Craigcrest Rings Engagment (Jr. Champion), Craigcrest Rejoicrs Reconfirm (HM Jr Champion) and Craigcrest Rejoices Rosalyn (5th Sr. Calf). Congrats to 4-H’ers Chevonne, Genna, Connor and Blair.
